In the third year of the institute we started training at the military department, training took place both in the city and at the country site in Krasnoye Selo. During training we studied how to make pontoon crossings, lay passages in minefields and other tasks of engineering troops.

  Passing training at the military department allowed upon completion of training and the end of deferment from the army service in case of a call to military training camp or in case of the need of the army in my military accounting specialty to go to serve one year as a lieutenant instead of two years as a private.

  So I received the officer rank of lieutenant and a military ticket having been at the military training camp at the end of the fourth year of the institute.
